Terms and Conditions
By downloading or using KoaPet you accept these terms. We have written this text as clearly and transparently as possible, but it is still a contract: it's worth reading.
1. What KoaPet is
KoaPet is an app to organize your pet's life: their health history, their vaccines, their reminders, their expenses and their memories. The service is provided by KoaPet, based in Milan, Lombardy (Italy).
KoaPet is not a veterinary service. The information in the app is organizational and in no case replaces the diagnosis, advice or treatment of a licensed veterinarian. This includes the care tips, the weather-based alerts, the fun facts and the check-up suggestions: they are general guidance for each type of animal, not assessments of your animal's health. If there is any symptom or emergency, see a professional.
2. Your account
You need an account to use KoaPet, created with your email or with your Google account, and you must confirm the email is yours. You are responsible for keeping your credentials safe and for all activity that happens under your account. You must be at least 14 years old and provide truthful information. If we detect fraudulent use, we may suspend the account.
3. Free use
KoaPet can be used for free, with no time limit. It includes the health history, the schedule, expense tracking, memories and the vet search, with up to 3 pets of your own (5 in total counting the ones other people share with you) and 6 albums.
We may offer additional paid features in the future. If that happens, we will tell you clearly in the app and update these terms first.
4. Sharing a pet
You can invite other people to look after a pet with you. Whoever accepts the invitation can see and edit all of that pet's information, so only invite people you trust. The owner decides who joins and who leaves, and can hand the pet over to someone else.
What each person logs is their own responsibility. If you delete your account while owning a shared pet, it passes to another of the people with access instead of being deleted.
5. Your content
The photos, notes and data you upload are yours and remain so. By uploading them you only grant us the technical permission needed to store, process and display them in the app, to you and to the people you share each pet with. We don't use them for advertising, we don't publish them and we don't give them to third parties for their own purposes. If you delete your account, they are deleted.
6. Acceptable use
By using KoaPet you agree not to:
- Upload content that is illegal, offensive or doesn't belong to you.
- Try to access other users' accounts or data.
- Send invitations to people you don't know or use them to harass.
- Reverse engineer, decompile or copy the app.
- Use the app in an automated way or at a volume that degrades the service.
- Resell or commercially exploit the service without our permission.
7. Vet search and Google Maps
The emergency screen and the clinic search include features and content from Google Maps. Their use is subject to the current versions of the Google Maps/Google Earth Additional Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.
Opening hours, phone numbers, addresses and ratings come from Google and from what the businesses themselves publish, so they may be out of date or incomplete. We don't guarantee that a center is open, that it really is a veterinary clinic or that it treats your particular species. The details of «your vet» are the ones you confirm when saving it.
It is a helper tool, not an emergency service. In a real emergency, call before you travel.
8. Receipt scanner and booklet reading
Automatic receipt reading works with artificial intelligence and can make mistakes when interpreting amounts, dates or descriptions. The same applies to reading the vaccination booklet, especially with handwriting. Always check the data before accepting it. Neither of them replaces your receipts or your original documents.
9. Care tips, reminders and weather
The app's tips and fun facts have been prepared from public recommendations by veterinary and animal welfare organizations, but they are general: they don't take into account your animal's age, breed or health. Vaccination and check-up schedules vary by country and case; the one that applies is the one your vet sets.
Reminders depend on your iPhone having notifications turned on, so don't use them as the only safeguard for an important medication. Weather data comes from an external service and is provided for information only; it may not accurately reflect the conditions at your exact location.
10. Service availability
We do our best to keep KoaPet running, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability. There may be maintenance, incidents at our providers or changes to features. We recommend not using the app as the only backup of critical information.
11. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, KoaPet is provided «as is». We are not liable for indirect damages arising from the use of the app, for decisions made about your pet's health, for incorrect data from third-party sources, for what the people you give access to do with the information, or for loss of information caused by failures beyond our control. None of this limits the rights the law grants you as a consumer.
12. Termination
You can stop using KoaPet and delete your account whenever you want from Your account. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, notifying you when reasonably possible.
13. If you downloaded KoaPet from the App Store
Apple asks us to make a few points clear about the apps it distributes:
- This agreement is between you and KoaPet, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.
- We grant you a personal, non-transferable license to use KoaPet on Apple devices that you own or control, within the App Store usage rules.
- Maintenance and support of the app are our responsibility. Apple has no obligation to provide them.
- If the app fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any; beyond that, and to the extent permitted by law, Apple assumes no other warranty obligation.
- Any claim regarding the app (product liability, failure to conform to a legal requirement, consumer or data protection) is ours to address, as are third-party claims that KoaPet infringes their intellectual property.
- You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo and are not on any U.S. Government list of restricted parties.
- When using the app you must comply with applicable third-party terms, for example those of your mobile data provider.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them.
14. Changes to the terms
We may update these terms. If the change is significant, we will notify you in the app or by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use KoaPet afterwards means you accept them.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Italy. If you are a consumer, you may go to the courts of your place of residence.
